When a person dies, it is a mere statistic, a number added to the colossal number of people who have already died that you are not aware of. Plants, animals, insects and essentially all living things must die at one point and the majority of them already have. The preface says that, overall, death is inevitable and shouldn’t be feared as we are surrounded by it every day. In my opinion, the most essential part of the book is the preface. This statement ends the first chapter of the Deathconsciousness booklet and encapsulates Antiochian’s belief concisely. Unlike my other articles about Wagner and leitmotif, genres, and artists, I was not familiar with Deathconsciousness before researching it.įirst off, the album cover is a slightly edited portion of The Death of Marat, by Jacques-Louis David. I eventually found that Deathconsciousness’ music itself is only the beginning of the album’s artistic message. ![]() Because I found these accents fascinating, I decided to look further into both of them. This media consists of its cover and the 70-page booklet that comes with the album’s purchase. While its sound is a mouthful and doesn’t really give a great feel of the album, the other media surrounding the album does. I would characterize the genre of the album as shoegazing emo post-punk drone music. If you haven’t guessed by the morbid album cover and title, the album primarily adresses death, suicide, and other related themes such as nihilism. Recently, I found a fascinating album called Deathconsciousness by the duo Have a Nice Life. ![]()
